The Statue of Liberty is Closing: Even She Needs a Rest!

After 125 of years of delighting visitors from around the globe, the Statue of Liberty will be taking a year off to get a facelift. OK, not really, but you get the picture.

Lady Liberty has been in need of repairs and updates for quite some time and in order to make those necessary upgrades, the statue will close temporary starting November 1, 2011. Once closed, the Statue of Liberty will undergo interior upgrades and repairs reported to cost $26 million.

Curious about the changes? According to David Luchsinger, superintendent of the Statue of Liberty National Monument, Lady Liberty will be getting security and safety upgrades like elevators, fire-proof staircases, and additional exits. Right now, the only way in and out of the statue’s crown is through a narrow spiral staircase, which poses a hazard for visitors in the event of an emergency.

With the Statue of Liberty closing for repairs, many travelers are looking to sneak in a visit before she reopens sometime in 2012. Luckily, to help you get there, NYCTrip.com is offering Statue of Liberty Vacation Packages. Able to help you bypass the long lines in the hot summer sun, NYCTrip.com’s Statue of Liberty passes are so worth it if you’re planning on visiting this summer. Those lines get long and with Lady Liberty taking a break, you can bet that they’ll be even longer.  Don’t worry though – if you’re planning on visiting this popular attraction after the closing in November, you can still enjoy the exterior of the Statue of Liberty as well as Liberty Island.  NYCTrip.com will still offer Statue of Liberty and Ellis Island Tours, but they won’t include access to the interior of the Statue until it reopens.

Want to see the Statue before she closes for upgrades? Book your Statue of Liberty Trip today with NYCTrip.com. We offer great savings and of course, an unforgettable taste of the Big Apple!
